Poor

Poor exists all around the world. It's true, just open your eyes and you will see it. Sometimes when I lived in the states it was not too obvious. Maybe because opportunities are available there like no where else? Maybe we all got numb to the street people and felt they could change if they wanted to? Probably as many reasons as there are people.

But here poor is like a plague. It infects the population like a cancer out of control. They don't have homeless shelters, free kitchens etc like there. Opportunities to climb out of poverty are not available here.Hard work, for precious little money is available and the majority of filipinos will work like a dog to buy a kilo of rice every day. Then pray they can find work tomorrow.

If you are lucky enough to find a real job here...it usually pays about 150 pesos ($3) a day. If you are over 30, you are considered unemployable, Many companies will only employ you for six months max. You will need the best education you can get to be looked at for a decent job. Even a colledge degree is NO guarantee, and that will cost a fortune that you have no hope of getting.
So as I see it....children are the best hope for a cure. The Government is and always has been corrupt and self serving. Sound familiar??? So it is up to us to make a difference. I...like so many foregners, live here on a pension. Mine is not large but allows a comfortable life for us. It also has a little extra every month. That little extra goes a lonnnng way toward making a difference in the lives of children. It really doesn't take much. A very good friend of mine donated $20 to James Allans fund for an operation. I am sure that money could have been spent a thousand other way. But he chose James over all of them. All donations that I recieve, and there are very very few, Will go directly to the designated program. I pay all expenses out of my own pocket. So NONE of your money is wasted.
I have two programs this year. #1 is a life saving operation for James Allan. #2 is the 4th grade kids at Sacred Heart Elementary. Every penny that you donate will be used to either save a life or end the poverty cycle for kids.
If you would like to donate it's easy. EMAIL me at cdocano@yahoo.com and I will send you an invoice. You may type in any amount you like and a note designating your cause.
I hope you will take the time to change a life.
Bless you all,
Dan

Sacred Heart Elementary 4th grade

Tomorrow I will drop by the classroom and pick up the students essays on "Why is
it important to learn English".
I will have about two weeks to read them all, which may be a daunting task lol.
Then decide the top three and award the prizes.
I have been researching the reasons to learn English myself. I will read my
essay before I award prizes. I actually learned quite a bit in my research. Who
says ya can't teach an old dog new tricks LOL.
If anyone wants to help with the prizes, just email me at cdocano@yahoo.com
and I will send you an invoice from pay pal.
God bless,
Dan

Riddle me this....

I know people that spend thousands of dollars on pets every year. Others that go into debt just to keep up appearances. Some that drink a case of beer a day. Many who will spend $100 on a diner in a restaurant. And the list goes on...and on.
But when they see children in need these same people have many excuses to not get involved. They can sit back and enjoy the good life while others die or live with No hope.
I am sure thankful that Bill Cole didn't feel that way when I was a teen. He saw a troubled kid that needed distraction, guidance and attention. He did all that for me till it was time to join the Navy. I could never thank him enough for that. It cost him to keep me entertained and out of trouble. Cost his time, patience, understanding and money too. But he knew he was making an investment in the future. I pray that it was a good investment.
As I look back over my life, I think he would be proud of how I turned out. I have not become the person that I wish I was but... I am a lot better person because of him.
It's kind of like that movie "Pay it forward". I have repaid his generous gift many times to many people. I am sure my efforts have changed many lives. And that my friend, changes the world. One person at a time. One random act of kindness at a time. You can put money in a bank and draw a little interest. Or you can invest it in a child and change the world.
I wish everyone who reads this would make the decision to change a life. And maybe ...just maybe share your story here to inspire others.
Bless you all,
Dan

James Allan

The photo is of James Allan. He is 5 yrs old and was diagnosed withHydrocephalus at age 6 mos when his head started growing but not his body.Hydrocephalus is commonly known as water on the brain. Actually it's a fluid that the body makes continuously. It is used to cushion the brain. Under normal conditions it is drained and replaced. The body then absorbs the spent fluid and all is well. With James, the fluid cannot drain so it accumulates and puts enormous pressure on the brain, skull and eyes. The operation he needs will drain the fluid and place a stint system with tubes and a valve in his head. This will allow the fluid to drain and be regulated. There is also the chance that he will return to normal,or as close to it as one could expect. As of now he cannot talk, walk,he has double blurred vision, cannot control his bladder functions, and his eyes look like they will soon pop out,and he is in constant pain. If left untreated it will most likely be fatal.James is not a part of the Sacred Heart Elementary project. But he is in dire need of our help.If you feel compassion for this young boy, you may donate to his operation fund by emailing me at cdocano@yahoo.com Just write a small note on the invoice I will send to earmark your donation to his cause. I always put $1 on the request but you can change that to any amount you'd like. This is a paypal account, so it is secure.
God Bless you all,Dan
